Refresh with Fresh Ingredients: Watermelon Slushie With Lime and Basil

It’s time to break out the blender because hot weather calls for cold drinks and our Watermelon Slushie is bound to become your favorite. While a frozen beverage (known as the slush) may be the best way to rehydrate on a hot summer day, our slushie recipe is not your typical icy drink that’s made with artificially flavored, overly-sweetened syrup poured over crushed ice. In fact, our Basil and Lime Watermelon Slushie is packed with nutrition and electrolytes in every sweet sip. This frozen beverage is the absolute perfect summertime, healthy treat because it is made using only real food ingredients with no added sugar — just fruit, lime juice, seltzer, and basil. It’s vegan and dairy-free too! We love including watermelon in this recipe because it contains so many essential vitamins and minerals and is inherently hydrating on warm-weather days. Blending lime juice with the watermelon injects a bit of tanginess and acidity to this drink and balances the natural sweetness of the fruit, and we brighten it up with fresh basil leaves and a bit of fizz. Our Basil and Lime Watermelon Slushie is a thirst-quenching, cool-flavor combination of fizzy frozen fruit. It’s the perfect summer refresher to beat the heat!

How To Make A Basil Lime Watermelon Slushie

Nutrient Booster: Watermelon

Watermelon is a nutrient-dense food that contains high levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. This juicy melon is loaded with citrulline and lycopene, two powerful plant compounds known to lower blood pressure, improve metabolic health, and decrease muscle soreness after exercise. The high levels of lycopene are very effective at protecting cells from damage, help lower the risk of heart disease, and make watermelon an anti-inflammatory fruit. What’s more, it is made up of 92% water and full of important electrolytes which help prevent dehydration, especially during the hot summer months. It is so easy to enjoy the many health benefits of this sweet summer fruit. Add watermelon to a fruit salad, combine it in a smoothie, jazz up a salad, or blend it into a slushie for a refreshing drink on a warm day.

Cool Pairs for Hot Weather

We love a nourishing, light meal that won’t heat you up on a hot summer day. And now is the perfect time for finding warm-weather recipes for cool summer bites, especially when they pair with the refreshing flavors of our Basil and Lime Slushies. We love to sip this icy drink with a summer salad, like our Colorful Quinoa Pecan Salad, or our Italian Pasta Salad. Fill our Almond Granola Cups with fruit and yogurt and enjoy a nutritious breakfast alongside this chilled beverage. Our Avocado Deviled Eggs are the kind of protein-filled snack that taste delicious with a cold drink, as well as our Wild Salmon and Sorghum Bowl that also calls for a cool accompaniment. Our Basil and Lime Slushies recipe makes the best summer sips, because when you eat cool, you feel cool.
